Winfall's
population
of
555
is
represented
by
the
Mayor
and
the
town
council.
The
current
Mayor
of
Winfall
is
Frederick
L.
Yates
and
the
council
consists
of
Mayor-Pro-Tempore
Kenneth
Rominger,
Alice
Rowland,
Morris
Mitchell
and
Clifford
Towe.
Winfall's
police
protection
is
under
the
supervision
of
its
Police
Chief
David
Shaffer.
Another
form
of
protection
in
Winfall
is
its
fire
department,
which
consists
of
20
members.
Kelvin
Roberson
is
the
chief
of
this
completely
voluntary
group
of
dedicated
men.
Many
homes
and
lives
have
been
saved
as
a
result
of
the
courageous
efforts
of
this
department.
A
major
contribution
to
Winfall's
growth
is
that
two
of
the
four
schools
in
Perquimans
County
are
located
here.
These
schools
are
Perquimans
Central
Elementary
and
Perquimans
Middle
School.
Central's
classes
include
Pre-K
through
second
grade
with
William
Stallings
as
Principal.
Middle
School
classes
range
from
sixth
to
eighth
grades
with
Anne
White
as
Principal.
The
very
fine
teachers
of
these
schools
have
aided
in
the
educational
growth
of
not
just
Winfall,
but
Perquimans
County
as
a
whole.
Our
community
owes
a
debt
of
gratitude
to
our
existing
Mayor,
Frederick
L.
Yates
who
is
presently
serving
his
fourth
term.
He
was
sensitive
enough
to
see
potential
in
a
community
that
was
at
a
standstill
and
began
to
pursue
various
avenues
which
would
bring
freshness
to
the
community.
Under
his
leadership,
a
sewer
system
is
in
the
process
of
hookup.
The
Winfall
Landing
Park
will
include
a
future
site
for
a
proposed
municipal
building
which
will
house
the
Administrative
Offices,
Police
Department,
and
a
Community
Center.
Other
accomplishments
under
Yate's
administration
include
the
newly
erected
Wetland
which
is
a
project
of
the
Resource
Conservation
and
Development
Council,
and
the
North
Carolina
Northeast
Natural
Gas
which
is
beginning
construction.
Friendship
Gardens
are
in
the
making
and
will
begin
to
crop
up
all
over
the
town
due
to
the
efforts
of
some
of
the
Town's
senior
ladies,
as
well
as
crepe
myrtles
that
will
adorn
a
couple
of
the
main
streets
of
Winfall.
